Authentication

At BC Boots UK, authentication is not outsourced.

It’s not automated, and it’s not guesswork.

Every item we list is authenticated in-house, by specialists with over a decade of expertiese who handle match-worn and player-issued football boots daily — not occasionally. It's what we live and breathe, which is why our certification carries weight.

Because we don’t pass responsibility to a third party.

We take it in its entirety, for life.

Why We Authenticate In-House

Most companies outsource authentication to reduce liability and shift responsibility elsewhere.

We don’t, and we never will.

Because if a business needs a third-party to “confirm” what they sell, they’re essentially saying:

“Trust them, not us.”

At BC Boots UK, our reputation is built on the opposite:

  • We stand behind our own expertise
  • We put our name on every result
  • We accept full accountability
  • Our certification has meaning because we carry the risk

If we outsourced, our COAs and LOAs would be reduced to just paperwork — and the collector experience would lose the only thing that matters in this market:

Trust backed by responsibility.

The Standard: Match-Worn / Player-Issued Is Not Retail

Authenticating elite-level football boots isn’t the same as authenticating a normal signed shirt.

Professional boots often include details never found on retail pairs, such as:

  • Bespoke internal reinforcements
  • Custom lasts / shape modifications
  • Pro-only soleplates and tooling
  • Athlete service build methods
  • Personalised codes, IDs and player markings
  • Unique wear patterns and pitch-use indicators

This is a niche within a niche — and it requires specialist knowledge built through volume, pattern recognition, and years of hands-on handling.

That’s what we do.

Our 8-Step In-House Authentication Process

Stage 1: Provenance & Intake

1. Documentation Review: We gather and assess all available information, including prior sales history, supporting paperwork, club sources, and known ownership details.

2. Provenance Verification: We evaluate the credibility of the item’s history and chain of custody — including verification of relevant club contacts where applicable.

Stage 2: Physical Inspection

3. Construction & Material Assessment: We examine build quality, stitch work, finishing, components, and manufacturing markers — cross-referenced with known authentic player examples and era-correct specifications.

4. Wear Analysis: We assess wear characteristics consistent with elite-level use, including traction wear, upper stress points, internal lining signs, and match-use indicators (where applicable).

Stage 3: Media Cross-Referencing

5. Photo / Video Comparison (where possible): We compare to match-day photography and footage to identify unique characteristics that can link the item visually to real-world usage.

6. Context & Event Correlation: Where a match can be identified, we consider how specific wear, damage or markings align with moments, environments, or usage patterns.

Stage 4: Final Verification & Certification

7. Compilation of Evidence: We store a detailed internal record of our findings, including photography, notes, and supporting comparisons.

8. Approval & Sign-Off: If the item passes our process, certification is issued only once authentication is agreed and formally approved.

Our documents are valid only when signed by a Director of BC Boots UK.

This is imperative because top-end football memorabilia is increasingly:
